Conditions of use

Properly chosen, fitted and maintained products will give many years of trouble free performance. The information in this catalogue makes this possible. If you do not correctly choose, fit and maintain these products you may release the manufacturer from liability to you. Please consider the supplied information carefully.

1) General use

The castors and wheels supplied by us are generally interchangeable, and are attached to trolley, furniture, industrial containers and similar products to make them mobile. Unless specified otherwise in our catalogue, our products must not be used at a speed exceeding walking pace, and not under continuous motion.

2) Fitting

When selecting a castor or wheel it is necessary to consider all aspects as shown in the catalogue.
For satisfactory use, correct fitting is essential, ie:
• correct and secure fitting to the article;
• the fixing position must have adequate strength and material for secure fitting;
• the function of the castor must not be changed nor affected by the fixing;
• the swivel action axis must be vertical at all times;
• fixed castors must have their wheel axles in alignment;
• if all swivel castors are used, then they must be similar in mounting heights and offsets;
• if fixed castors are used with swivel castors, they must be compatible, and as recommended by us.

3) Outdoor use & corrosive environments

When castors are used outdoors, in coastal areas, or in corrosive and/or aggressive areas, special products have to be specified and warranty periods will vary.
Pages 56 and 57 include castors designed for corrosive environments. A chemical reistance table shown on page 56 describes the performance of various materials when exposed to corrosive conditions. A 3 (three) year warranty period applies for applications or environments where all castor materials are rated as ‘good’. A 1 (one) year warranty period applies for appllications or environments where all castor materials are rated as ‘fair’ or ‘good’. No warranty applies for applications or environments in which a castor material is rated as ‘poor’. In corrosive applications or environments not described in the table, please seek advice from Fallshaw technical staff.

4) High/low temperature

For use in temperatures below 0°C (32°F) and above 60°C (140°F) the efficiency of the castor can be impaired, particularly the normal load capacity as published can be affected when used in temperatures below/above those stated herein. Special products can be specified - refer to pages 58 - 59.

5) Components

Component parts are assembled into a complete castor or wheel. The manufacturer is only liable for the original component parts making the complete product.
You must allow for all possible loads when selecting products, otherwise use increased safety factors.

6) Misuse

Misuse occurs if wheels and castors are used other than specified for their intended use.
Do not misuse the castors or wheels.
The word ‘misuse’ can be defined as:
• overloading;
• unsuitable flooring;
• excessive temperatures;
• failure to release brake;
• exposure to caustic substances;
• excessive shock loading;
• ingression of foreign objects into wheel treads;
• excessive speeds;
• changes made to the component parts and assembled castors not previously agreed in writing with the
original manufacturer.

7) Standards

If our standard products do not satisfy your needs we may agree to design for your particular application. Any new design will be subject to the relevant Australian Standard, or in its absence, to relevant ISO or CEN standards, as well as Quality Standard ISO9001-2000.

8) Maintenance

Product maintenance must occur at regular intervals.
The maintenance of castors is usually:
• regreasing the swivel and wheel bearings;
• retightening the axle, and/or the adjustable kingpin when fitted;
• cleaning agents should not contain corrosive or grinding elements;
• wheels, castors or components must be replaced if they cease to operate effectively.
• Retighten the mountings (especially expanding adaptors)

9) Duty

Duty to inform, instruct and use correctly
• we provide information in our catalogue, brochures and on our website (www.fallshaw.com.au) to inform and instruct
in the correct use of these products. In the event that we are asked about unusual applications, we will provide written advice;
• we urge our distributors/resellers to inform their customers as to the availability of this information;
• we urge users, whether manufacturers, repairers or or end users, to use this information.

10) Safety

All users of our products need to choose, use and maintain products according to the supplied information or the products may become unsafe.
